Check out the key features of Ansys nCode Design Life
Strain Life (EN)
The Strain-Life concept is versatile, applying to various issues such as low-cycle fatigue (LCF), where local elastic-plastic strain dictates fatigue life. The EN standard method employs the Coffin-Manson-Basquin formula, which establishes the link between strain amplitude and the cycles until failure.
Stress Life (SN)
This applies mainly to high-cycle fatigue (HCF), where fatigue life is governed by nominal stress. Various methods establish SN curves, allowing interpolation among material data curves, considering factors like mean stress or temperature. Additional options accommodate stress gradients and surface finishes.
Dang Van Criterion
The multiaxial fatigue limit criterion predicts endurance limits in complex loading. It yields a safety factor, utilizing material parameters derived from tensile and torsion tests. To address manufacturing effects, it incorporates equivalent plastic strain in the unloaded component.
Safety Factor
Ansys nCode excels in stress-related safety factor assessments, allowing to apply standard mean stress adjustments or user-specified Haigh diagrams. This is crucial for evaluating the durability of critical components like engines and powertrains, ensuring robust design criteria for enhanced performance and reliability.
Seam Weld Analysis
Ansys nCode streamlines seam weld fatigue analysis by automatically identifying weld lines. It covers fillet, overlap, and laser welded joints, using stress data directly from FEA models or derived from grid point forces. This method effectively assesses weld toe, root, and throat failures.
Spot Weld Analysis
The software assesses spot weld fatigue in thin sheets by using cross-sectional forces and moments to compute structural stress at the weld edge. Life calculations are done at various angles, reporting the most critical scenario. Python scripting models other joining techniques like rivets or bolts.
Vibration Fatigue Analysis
The Vibration Fatigue feature simulates shaker tests with random (PSD), swept-sine, sine-dwell, or sine-on-random loading. It predicts fatigue in the frequency domain, providing more realistic and efficient analysis compared to time-domain methods for random loading applications.
Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue
In high-temp environments (e.g., engine pistons, exhausts), Ansys's Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) tackles complex failure patterns. Using stress and temperature data, TMF employs solvers for high-temp fatigue and creep, integrating Chaboche for fatigue and Larson-Miller for creep analysis.
Adhesives Bonds
This tool uses fracture mechanics to identify stressed joints. It models adhesive bonds in metals with beam elements and calculates forces and moments. Strain energy release rates are estimated to determine safety factors by comparing them to crack growth thresholds.
