Ansys Materials Processing - Optimize manufacturing, product quality and reduce prototyping attempts in polymer technologies
The Fluent Materials Processing (MatPro) workspace is used in a wide variety of applications, including polymer and rubber processing (extrusion, thermoforming, pantographing, material delivery, blow molding), food rheology, glass pressing, and many other cases involving the flow of non-Newtonian fluids. The software uses the high-performance Polyflow solver, developed specifically for polymer simulation. It can work with nonlinear material deformations and has a novel meshing technique to distinguish tools from working materials. This is especially helpful for die design and can help you predict performance or reveal unexpected problems. The combination of these tools allows engineers to accurately simulate complex material behaviors and rely less on expensive and wasteful trial-and-error methods. The Materials Processing software can interact with other Ansys products, enabling the option to evaluate mechanical performance considering the process-induced properties.

Wide range of polymer processes
Ansys Materials Processing offers a suite of tools for simulating polymer processes. It covers a range of technologies like extrusion/coextrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming. Engineers can optimize designs, analyze material behavior, and ensure efficient production, all within a user-friendly interface.
Efficient Die Designing with Optimized Performance and Reduced Costs
MatPro offers virtual design and testing for extrusion dies. Users can simulate the process, optimize die shapes, and easily compare concepts. This streamlines die design, allowing engineers to swiftly identify and resolve flow or geometry issues before actual mold production, saving time and ensuring efficient manufacturing.
Investigate Diverse Materials
MatPro offers a diverse range of mathematical material models for precise understanding and characterization of material behavior, to easily define and test your own materials. This approach allows testing of new resins before production, comparing prototypes to assess performance against existing materials. Reverse-designing resins optimizes end-product performance while minimizing costs and environmental impact.
Fluid-Structure Interaction
Ansys MatPro features built-in fluid-structure interaction (FSI) for modeling thermomechanical interactions between materials and surrounding solids. Automatically refined mesh resolution enhances results quality during large elastic deformations. Export results to Ansys Mechanical for streamlined structural analysis or virtual drop tests and assess top-loading deformation.
Modeling Nonlinear Thermal Effects
Models of Materials Processing feature viscous heating, crucial for identifying polymer degradation and preventing unwanted rubber curing. To accurately model high-temperature processes with strongly viscous materials, like glass forming or extrusion, it utilizes advanced nonlinear material properties and precise radiation forecasts.
Develop Better Quality in Packaging Industry
Packaging is crucial for product protection, but it's also about sustainability and added costs for suppliers. Using MatPro's virtual prototyping, users can model the packaging process in a simulation environment. Coupling with Ansys explicit dynamics and Ansys Mechanical to assess design durability, the software allows R&D to swiftly and affordably create lighter, high-performance packaging, taking action during design or manufacturing.
