Material test aided structural simulation of a composite railway seat

Aiding the development of composite - steel hybrid railway seat structure by investigating main modules like composite seat shell, welded steel holding structure and accessories like arm rests and tray table according to UIC-566 standard.

Field of expertise:

Simulation

Application area:

Composite

Industry:

Railway

To be compliant for international standards is one of the key features for a railway seat. Based on UIC-566 Standard the composite shell of a new railway seat was analysed from the aspect of deformations, stresses and composite failure. Furthermore, the design of the welded steel structure, the handrail and the tray table were improved in an iterative process to meet the strength criteria and the weight limit specified by the Customer. In case of composite simulations, input for material cards were created using data from in-house material tests equipped with strain gauge and extensometer for the accurate result.
