Ansys is committed to supporting the next generation of engineers in broadening and deepening their knowledge; thus it provides a wide range of free and easily accessible software for universities and for students. Ansys student software, including Ansys Discovery Live Student, Ansys AIM Student, and the Ansys SCADE Student program, surpassed 1.5 million product downloads in 2020, and is now complemented by access to the LS-DYNA Student.
With the help of LS-DYNA, students can acquire basic design and engineering skills in the field of explicit simulation. The software is available and can be downloaded for free at ansys.com/student.
What exactly is ANSYS LS-DYNA?
ANSYS LS-DYNA is a general-purpose finite element code that can be used to simulate the reaction of different materials to short-term, intense loading. This most commonly used explicit program is also suitable for solving nonlinear, time-dependent, dynamic problems.
The student version of LS-DYNA, an extract of Ansys commercial LS-DYNA software that is suitable for examining and solving problems during university assignments and projects, includes the LS-DYNA solver and the Ansys LS-PrePost application.
The software is used, among other things, in processes with high deformation, such as a car collision, explosion, but can also be used in the study of drop analyzes and damage mechanisms.
How can the software provide support for students and university teachers?
LS-DYNA can help students progress capstone projects or solve examples related to curriculum or homework involving structures. The software can also handle simulations involving material failure and students can solve models in which a large number of parts or surfaces interact with each other. The interactions and load passing between complex behaviors can be modeled accurately.
LS-DYNA can be used in many fields and industries, including the automotive, aerospace, military, construction and bioengineering sectors.
Ansys provides assistance in mastering the student version of LS-DYNA through the Ansys Learning Forum. If you have any questions related to this product, you can post it in the forum under the “Student Product” category.
